Welcome, spring! Spring in Kentucky is a fun time! We enjoy March madness as we take basketball in this state very seriously, the blooming flowers are gorgeous, and, in our small college town, spring fever fills the air as the community takes over the sidewalks, parks, and our walk-up Dairy Queen!

We are embracing spring weather this week and exploring all types of weather. Already this month we've had warm temps and sunshine, severe storms and a tornado warning, a couple of inches of snow, and record-setting wind chills. Talk about March madness! In core math we are moving on to a new unit on comparing numbers. We've been comparing numbers during calendar time since August, so learning the vocabulary and the symbols that go along with the concept will be a piece of cake! In literacy we are pressing on with Saxon Phonics, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, and with basic sight words.
Weather is a great topic because it's a common first-hand experience for children and adults. I look forward to some great class discussions this week!
